teknoCEA designs, manufactures and commissions power electronics in Barcelona. We were founded in 2012 as a spin-off of CITCEA-UPC, one of Europe’s reference centres in power electronics and control, with a specific goal: take what was being researched in the lab and put it to work in industry.
For ten years, that is what we did. We developed custom equipment from TRL 3 to TRL 7 for industry and research: industrial test benches, microgrid converters, stationary charging systems for rail and bus, and European demonstrators for flexibility and grid services. That period gave us something money cannot buy: our own technology base in power stages, control and firmware.
From engineering to product
Since 2023 we have been turning that base into catalogue products. Today we have three lines:
- Wallare Park, AC charging for car parks. It came out of a public innovation challenge run by Barcelona Serveis Municipals (B:SM), which we won in 2023. Today 150 Wallare points are in service on Barcelona’s public network.
- SHP-X, onboard shore power converter. It lets a yacht switch off its diesel generators in any port. A 75 kVA prototype has been validated aboard a 32.9 m Sanlorenzo SL108.
- Components and systems for research. Si and SiC power stages, control boards, measurement and programming tools that labs across Europe use to build their platforms.
A fourth line is in development: M³-OPS, a medium-voltage multiport converter to electrify port quays, lab-validated in the Horizon Europe project iPLUG (TRL 5).
What sets us apart
We own the full stack: hardware, control, firmware and software. That has two practical consequences for our customers.
First, we adapt the equipment to the asset, not the other way round. What is a closed platform at a large OEM is, at teknoCEA, a base we can tailor.
Second, we do not build black boxes. We work with open standards (OCPP, ISO 15118, Modbus), and the owner decides how the asset behaves. In one line: Advanced grid interfaces. Control that stays yours. We explain what that means in Advanced Grid Interfaces, explained.
Who we are
We are a team of ten in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona), with direct access to CITCEA-UPC’s labs and research talent. Our shareholders include UPC, Grow Venture Partners and the founding team. We design, build and stand behind our installed base for its whole life.
Our technology is protected: Wallare holds a European patent application (EP23383029) and a registered Community design.
Meet us
From 3 to 5 November we will be at Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, on two stands: Tomorrow.Mobility (Wallare) and Tomorrow.Blue Economy (SHP-X and M³-OPS). All the details here.
Let’s talk. If you are working on electrification, EV charging or a grid interface project, get in touch.
